Portraits and Responses

Portraits and Responses is a documentary series photographing nine people in my life holding their written responses from three questions I presented to them. Each of these questions have their own designated grid to explore and compare each person and their response.

From these questions, I hoped to create an interesting collection of answers to create a narrative and reflection of the sitters thoughts throughout the three typologies while also looking further into each person’s values and priorities. Having more than one question helped this. In one response one person states their philosophy in life is winning the lottery which may seem on the face of things quite shallow yet later on we see their biggest struggle is looking out for their mother. It makes us look at this person differently and, in our mind, we create an alternative narrative to what we initially thought.

What is your biggest Struggle?

What is your philosophy in life?

What makes you happy?
